Memorial & Obituary Policy

AlumniPulse™ is built to connect educational institutions, students, teachers, alumni, classmates, and generations of people who shared an educational journey.

We recognize that an alumni community is made up not only of people who are with us today, but also of those who came before us and those whose lives have become part of the history of their school, college, university, class, or alumni community.

A person may have been a:

• Student
• Classmate
• Teacher
• Professor
• Administrator
• Coach
• Alumni
• Friend
• Mentor
• School or college leader
• Member of an educational community

When someone passes away, we believe their contribution and memory should be treated with dignity and respect.

The AlumniPulse Memorial & Obituary Program provides a place for communities to respectfully remember deceased members, preserve their stories, share appropriate photographs and memories, and acknowledge their place in the history of an institution or alumni group.

Our goal is remembrance — not commercialization, sensationalism, or exploitation of grief.

AlumniPulse may provide two related but distinct types of content.

Memorial — A Memorial is a lasting community page created to remember a person who has died. It may include: name, photograph, educational history, school/college/university, class or batch, graduation year, profession or accomplishments, biography, memories, tributes, photographs, important dates, community messages, and relevant institutional connections.

Obituary — An Obituary is a notice or biographical announcement concerning a person's death. It may be submitted by family members, friends, classmates, teachers, alumni groups, educational institutions, authorized representatives, or other individuals with a legitimate connection to the deceased.

An obituary may subsequently become associated with or form part of a Memorial, subject to AlumniPulse policies.

All memorial and obituary content must be created and maintained respectfully. Users must not use memorials to:

• Insult or ridicule the deceased
• Harass family members
• Promote hatred
• Publish abusive content
• Start personal disputes
• Promote political campaigns
• Sell unrelated products or services
• Publish advertisements
• Exploit a person's death for financial gain
• Spread intentionally false information
• Publish shocking or gratuitously graphic material
• Threaten or intimidate other users

AlumniPulse reserves the right to remove or restrict content that violates this policy or is inconsistent with the dignity of a memorial.

A memorial may be created by an individual or organization with a legitimate connection to the deceased. Examples include family members, classmates, friends, teachers, former teachers, alumni associations, schools, colleges, universities, departments, clubs, student organizations, and community administrators.

Creating a memorial does not automatically give the creator ownership over the deceased person's identity, photographs, biography, or other materials.

Where appropriate, AlumniPulse may request additional information or verification before publishing or maintaining a memorial.

AlumniPulse takes reasonable steps to discourage false or fraudulent memorials. Depending on the circumstances, we may request information such as a published obituary, funeral-home notice, newspaper obituary, institutional announcement, alumni association announcement, family confirmation, or other reliable evidence. We may also use publicly available information to verify a death.

However, AlumniPulse cannot guarantee that every memorial or obituary submitted by users is factually accurate. Users are responsible for the accuracy of the information they submit.

If you believe a memorial incorrectly states that someone has died, please report it immediately.

Creating a memorial for a living person is prohibited. Users must not: declare a living person deceased, create a fake obituary, create a memorial as a prank, create a memorial to harass someone, use a memorial to damage someone's reputation, or create a memorial based solely on rumor.

A memorial incorrectly identifying a living person as deceased may be removed immediately. Depending on the circumstances, AlumniPulse may suspend or terminate the account responsible for the content.

Users should make reasonable efforts to verify information before submitting it, including full name, dates, institution, class or batch, education, employment, awards, achievements, biography, family information, and cause of death.

Do not present speculation as fact. When information is uncertain, use appropriate language such as “According to family members…”, “The family has requested that…”, or “The available information indicates…” rather than presenting uncertain information as established fact.

AlumniPulse may correct obvious formatting or factual errors when independently verified, but does not guarantee that memorial content will be reviewed for accuracy before publication.

A cause of death should never be required to create a memorial. Users should consider whether including the cause of death is appropriate and whether the information has been publicly confirmed or authorized by the family.

Do not speculate about cause of death, medical conditions, mental health, substance use, suicide, accidental death, criminal activity, or other sensitive circumstances. Do not publish unverified medical or personal information about the deceased.

AlumniPulse may remove or restrict sensitive information when necessary to protect dignity, privacy, or the interests of surviving family members.

Memorials concerning suicide, suspected suicide, overdose, violent death, or other sensitive circumstances require particular care. Users must not publish graphic descriptions, photographs of the death scene, detailed methods of self-harm, instructions or descriptions that could encourage self-harm, speculative accusations, unverified explanations, or sensationalized descriptions.

A respectful memorial may acknowledge the person's life without describing unnecessary details about the circumstances of their death.

Users may submit photographs and other media when they have the right or appropriate permission to share them, such as portraits, graduation photographs, class photographs, school photographs, reunion photographs, institutional photographs, family-provided photographs, and community photographs.

Users must not knowingly upload photographs that violate another person's copyright, privacy rights, publicity rights, or other legal rights. Do not upload death-scene photographs, graphic images, private medical photographs, intimate photographs, images intended to humiliate the deceased, or images unrelated to the memorial.

AlumniPulse may remove media that violates this policy.

AlumniPulse recognizes that family members may have special interests concerning a memorial. A surviving family member may request correction of information, addition of information, removal of sensitive information, removal of photographs, restriction of comments, memorial privacy changes, transfer of memorial management, temporary suspension, or removal of the memorial where appropriate.

Requests may require reasonable verification of the requester's identity and relationship to the deceased. Where competing requests are received, AlumniPulse may temporarily restrict editing or publication while the matter is reviewed.

AlumniPulse does not generally act as an arbitrator of family disputes such as disagreements about the wording of an obituary, the biography, photographs, relationships, family history, religious or cultural references, cause of death, or who should manage the memorial.

Where a genuine dispute exists, AlumniPulse may temporarily restrict editing or comments until the parties resolve the matter independently. We may request supporting documentation where necessary and may remove disputed information when it cannot reasonably be verified.

Where technically available, AlumniPulse may allow a memorial to have one or more designated administrators. Administrators may update biographical information, add photographs, moderate comments, approve community contributions, correct errors, manage memorial settings, and respond to reports.

Administrators must exercise these privileges respectfully. Administrative access may be revoked for abuse, harassment, misinformation, unauthorized changes, or violations of this policy.

AlumniPulse may allow classmates, friends, teachers, and other community members to leave memories and tributes such as “We will always remember your kindness.”

Tributes must remain respectful. Users must not use a memorial comment section to attack another commenter, attack the family, promote unrelated causes, advertise, spread rumors, publish personal disputes, post inappropriate material, or reveal sensitive personal information.

Memorial administrators and AlumniPulse may moderate or remove inappropriate comments.

A memorial must never be used to continue a dispute with a deceased person or their family. Prohibited behavior includes posting defamatory accusations, mocking the deceased, repeatedly insulting family members, posting inflammatory political arguments, revealing private family disputes, or using the memorial to target surviving individuals.

The memorial should remain a place of remembrance.

Users should be careful when mentioning living individuals. Do not publish unnecessary phone numbers, home addresses, personal email addresses, government identification numbers, financial information, private medical information, passwords or account information, or other sensitive personal information.

Do not use a memorial to expose or target a living person.

Additional care must be taken when a memorial concerns a person who was a minor at the time of death. Avoid publishing unnecessary information about school records, medical information, home address, family circumstances, private photographs, or detailed circumstances of death.

AlumniPulse may restrict or remove memorial content involving minors when appropriate.

Because AlumniPulse is focused on educational communities, memorials may connect deceased members to schools, colleges, universities, campuses, departments, courses, classes, batches, graduation years, alumni groups, teachers, and student organizations.

Users should not falsely claim that a deceased person attended an institution, taught at an institution, or belonged to a particular class. Where possible, educational affiliations should be verified through reliable sources or community records.

An institution may maintain memorial information for former students, teachers, professors, principals, administrators, alumni, coaches, and staff members.

Institutional memorials should be factual and respectful. AlumniPulse may work with institutions and authorized representatives to establish appropriate historical memorial collections.

The presence of a person's memorial on AlumniPulse does not necessarily mean that AlumniPulse, an institution, an alumni group, or any other organization endorses every statement contained in the memorial. Memorial information may be contributed by users.

AlumniPulse provides the platform for preservation and community participation but cannot independently verify every statement submitted by users.

Memorial pages are not intended to become advertising pages. Users may not use memorials to promote products, services, businesses, affiliate links, fundraising unrelated to the deceased, cryptocurrency, investment opportunities, political campaigns, or commercial solicitations.

AlumniPulse may permit limited links that are directly relevant to the deceased's legacy or an authorized memorial activity.

A memorial should not be used to solicit money without appropriate authorization. If AlumniPulse later provides an approved memorial fundraising feature, separate terms and requirements may apply.

Users must not create unauthorized fundraising campaigns using a person's death as a means of obtaining money.

AlumniPulse respects the diversity of educational communities around the world. Memorials may include appropriate religious, cultural, or personal expressions where they accurately reflect the deceased or the wishes of their family.

Users must not use memorials to attack another person's religion, culture, beliefs, or lack thereof. Where the deceased's preferences are unknown, contributors should avoid making unsupported claims.

Depending on AlumniPulse features, memorial creators may be able to choose among different visibility settings, such as public, institution/community members, alumni group members, or restricted/private. AlumniPulse may establish additional privacy controls over time.

Public memorials may appear in search results or be indexed by search engines. Users should therefore avoid submitting information that should remain private.

The purpose of a memorial is to preserve a person's memory for future generations. Accordingly, AlumniPulse may retain properly created memorials for an extended or indefinite period.

However, “permanent” does not mean that content can never be changed or removed. AlumniPulse may modify, restrict, archive, or remove a memorial when it violates this policy, contains demonstrably false information, was created fraudulently, the person is actually alive, it creates significant privacy or legal concerns, it contains prohibited content, it was created without appropriate authority, a valid legal requirement requires action, or technical/security circumstances require action.

A person may request review of a memorial by contacting AlumniPulse. Requests should include the memorial URL or identifying information, name of deceased, requester's name, relationship to deceased (if relevant), explanation of the request, supporting documentation when appropriate, and the requested action.

AlumniPulse will review requests according to this policy and applicable law. A request does not automatically guarantee removal. In some circumstances, the appropriate response may instead be correcting information, removing specific content, restricting visibility, changing memorial management, locking edits, or disabling comments.

Where reasonably verified family members request removal or significant modification of a memorial, AlumniPulse will give the request appropriate consideration.

However, because memorials may represent the historical record of an educational community, AlumniPulse may balance the request against the public or community nature of the information, the wishes of the deceased where known, institutional historical significance, contributions from classmates, legal obligations, privacy considerations, and the accuracy of the disputed information.

Anyone may report a memorial or obituary that they believe is fraudulent, identifies a living person as deceased, contains false information, violates privacy, contains harassment, contains inappropriate photographs, contains abusive comments, violates copyright, violates this policy, or creates another serious concern.

Reports should contain enough information for AlumniPulse to investigate. False or malicious reporting may itself violate the platform's Terms of Service.

Users are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights to submit photographs, documents, obituaries, written biographies, videos, scanned yearbooks, newspaper articles, or other copyrighted material.

AlumniPulse respects intellectual-property rights and may remove material when appropriate. Copyright complaints may be handled under AlumniPulse's applicable copyright procedures and Terms of Service.

Some memorials may be publicly accessible and may appear in search engines. If a user wants a memorial or particular information to have restricted visibility, they should use available privacy settings or submit a request to AlumniPulse.

Users should understand that information previously indexed by external search engines may not disappear immediately after a change is made on AlumniPulse.

AlumniPulse encourages corrections to memorial and obituary information. If you discover an error, please report it rather than creating a competing memorial. Examples include an incorrect graduation year, spelling, institution, date, photograph caption, professional information, or biography.

Where the correction can be verified, AlumniPulse may update the information.

Multiple users may independently attempt to create a memorial for the same person. Where duplicate memorials are identified, AlumniPulse may merge the memorials, link them, retain one primary memorial, redirect one memorial to another, or preserve appropriate contributions from each memorial.

The objective is to avoid fragmented or competing memorial pages while preserving legitimate community contributions.

Users should not copy an entire obituary from another website unless they have permission or the material is legally available for such use. Where appropriate, users may provide a short factual summary, a link to the original obituary, attribution, or authorized content.

AlumniPulse may remove copied material when copyright or other legal concerns arise.

AlumniPulse reserves the right, consistent with applicable law and its Terms of Service, to review reported memorial content, remove prohibited content, restrict visibility, disable comments, lock memorial editing, suspend accounts, remove fraudulent memorials, merge duplicate memorials, correct verified factual errors, preserve evidence relating to abuse or fraud, and cooperate with lawful requests from authorities.

We may take action without prior notice where necessary to protect users, families, the platform, or the integrity of the memorial system.

AlumniPulse is a platform for community-created educational history and remembrance. Although we encourage verification, we cannot guarantee that every memorial, obituary, photograph, biography, or memory is completely accurate.

Users should consider the source and context of information before relying on it as an authoritative historical record.

Memorialization should never come at the expense of the privacy or dignity of surviving family members, friends, classmates, teachers, or other living people. The death of one person does not create a right to publish another person's private information.

Remember the deceased without unnecessarily exposing the living.

AlumniPulse believes that an educational community is more than a list of currently active members. It is a chain of generations.

The student who graduated decades ago is part of the institution's story. The teacher who inspired thousands of students is part of its history. The classmate who passed away remains part of the memories of those who knew them.

We believe people should not disappear from that history simply because they are no longer with us.

A Memorial on AlumniPulse is intended to provide a respectful place where people can say: We remember you. You were part of our journey. You were part of our institution. You mattered to our community.

And generations from now, someone exploring an old school, college, university, class, or alumni group may discover that person's name and learn that they were once part of the community too.

Questions, corrections, concerns, or requests concerning a Memorial or Obituary should be submitted through the designated AlumniPulse support or memorial-reporting channel. Please provide the memorial's name and URL whenever possible.

For urgent concerns involving a living person being falsely reported as deceased, clearly identify the issue so that AlumniPulse can prioritize the review.
